Podiatry from the initial meeting to now I have been kept informed in a very straightforward but extremely caring manner. Both Paul an Donna should be commended on patient care.

Review of Ryde Health and Wellbeing Centre written by a patient
31st October 2017

Poor service and unacceptably slow. Over an hour and a half waiting for a blood test. Had to stand several times to allow older, infirm patients a seat. Whilst I understand some patients find it difficult to give blood and take longer, there were 22 minutes of waiting time where there were NO patients being seen by the 2 phlebotomists. When I was seen, they were openly discussing when they were each going to take their imminent breaks (around 11am) whilst everyone was waiting outside and new people arriving constantly. It was never this slow at the old Swanmore clinic and I fail to see why it is like it is in this new Clinic. In addition to the slow time to be seen, there are not enough seats for patients, and those there are, are poorly placed for older, infirm patients. Finally, at the point where new patients get their numbered tickets, there is a large yellow sign on the wall. This gives staff to use a marker pen to keep people advised as to longer than usual waiting times, how long the wait might be etc. Why not actually use this rather than it being on the wall as some kind of pointless decoration? Come on now people, it's not rocket science, it's the 21st Century. I shall go to St Mary's in future. This community centre is not very community friendly.

Response from Ryde Health And Well Being Centre

Very disappointed to read these comments. The Phlebotomy service is managed centrally from St Marys Hospital with Ryde Health and Wellbeing Centre hosting daily sessions. The centre has 3 defined waiting bays to accommodate the location of the various disciplines hosted at the centre and the room the person will be seen. As the Phlebotomy service is a sit and wait there are times when all 3 bays can be full depending on the volume of people arriving at the time to have their bloods taken. The centre reception staff will be more than happy to provide additional seating on the day should they be made aware this is required. Also on request the centres quiet room can be made available for anyone who requires a different seat.

I arrived at the Ryde Outpatient Centre for a blood test at just before 10am. My ticket was 56. The number on show was 31. I timed the progress and in just over half an hour the number moved to 34. Six patients an hour, 24 patients, four hour wait. I understand that the clinical needs of patients may make things slow down and even though two phlebotomists were apparently on duty, maybe I hit a bad patch. But at that time, there was no information imparted, no head popped round the door to say 'sorry ladies and gents - it's a tricky morning but we're getting quicker now/it'll be some time yet/another phlebotomist will be arriving in a few minutes' etc. In a digital age when basic information is at our finger tips, to be left wondering - and in the case of the older lady next to me - truly fretting because of the need to fast, is not acceptable nor showing anything like 'care'. The sad thing is that everyone sat there, meek as lambs, with concern shadowing their faces as the time grew between each beep, all desperate to will the numbers to move quicker. It's not acceptable. The Phlebotomy service is managed centrally from St Marys Hospital with daily sessions hosted at the Ryde Health and Wellbeing Centre. The service is a sit and wait service and numbers can not be pre-determined. At the centre we do take visitors comments seriously and endeavour to improve the patient experience. These comments have been passed to the Phlebotomy department responsible for providing the service .

I just want to ensure that Debbie Forsyth-Cafferey receives some recognition for going above and beyond any necessary duty in assisting me with an issue I was facing with the timing of getting my blood tests which required being done on 2 set days during the month which kept falling on a weekend when it wouldn't be possible to have it done. Debbie went to a lot of effort to assist in me getting my tests by making calls to the main hospital and discussing my needs with various departments and I have now managed to have my two tests done. Thank you Debbie for not only going to this effort, but being extremely friendly and caring too.

I can only compliment the phlebotomist on the way a situation was handled this morning.A patient was complaining about having to wait. she calmly assured him he would be seen, but also said that the longer she listened to him the longer the wait. at no time did she raise her voice. Many people complain but very few take the time to praise professionalism and general kindness and helpfulness of staff.

Arrived at 1pm for blood tests. Website shows open till 1:45, but apparently session is full. Not able to book an appointment so this is absurd! Not able to come back till the end of the week and these tests need to be done. Why should people need to sit and wait for hours.

Blood taker staff. Very rude. Taking 8 mins per person on average within 1-7 min between people on average. -Get more staff and please make sure they have good people skills.
